2019 LDAM Fundraiser for Quintin warner House
The Executive of the London & District Academy of Medicine (LDAM) was very pleased to host an important fundraising initiative to help men overcome addiction through services delivered at Quintin Warner House (a branch of Mission Services of London). The Academy raised $2000 to support the 14-bed, live-in addiction treatment program in London in order to assist adult men attain, and maintain, long-term sobriety. Funds raised will be used to provide 24-hour staffing as well as aftercare support for program graduates.
Executive Member-At-Large, Dr. Sreelatha Varapravan eloquently explained the Academy’s inspiration for supporting Quintin Warner House:
“Every single one of us know someone who has touched our lives because of substance use related issues. As a physician who works with individuals with mental illness and substance related issues, I see challenges related to recovery and wellness on a daily basis. Almost all the time, patients have shared with me that they want to get better and lead a better life but feel trapped because of the power the substances have over them, the judgement by people blaming them for their choices and the lack of supports or programs. Sometimes it takes just one individual or place that truly believes in them and helps them get better. I have personally seen some of my patients do so well when they get the treatment they so badly needed. Some of their hidden/forgotten talents get recognized, they start new relationships, return to school or work and in turn become strong advocates for others. It saddens me to hear that community resources which are working at grass roots level such as Quintin Warner House, face challenges in providing the full scope of services due to a gap in funding. I am hoping all of us can do our part in creating an environment of support, love and care thus changing the trajectory of someone’s life.”
